Blitzkrieg is a real-time strategy game with three campaigns during World War 2. During the campaigns the player keeps its core army of tanks and guns. In the missions there are additionally units provided by the game, including infantry and air units. There is a description of all units in the game, even if the units cannot be commanded by the player. The three campaigns are:
* Allies (US, UK, French) fighting in Europe and Africa
* German fighting in Europe, Africa and Russia
* Soviet Union fighting in Russia and afterwards in Europe
The campaigns include historical battles like the battle of Kursk and optional bonus missions, which can be played to:
* Get experience for the profile of the player to increase the rank of the profile. A higher rank leads to a larger core army.
* Get experience for the units in the core army, so that the units become deadlier.
* Exchange weapons to newer types.
During a mission the losses are never replaced, losses in the core army are replaced after missions. For the repairing and rearming of units depots have to be conquered, where the service trucks load their resources. All depots have unlimited resources.
The game itself has a 2D graphic, but uses a 3D terrain with a full destructible environment. Buildings can be occupied by infantry to use them as cover. The game includes maps for multiplayer matches over LAN or the internet.

Burning Horizon is a stand-alone add-on for the original Blitzkrieg game.
Blitzkrieg is a real-time WW II tactical level game in the Close Combat style. You command your small group of combined arms troops in a single battle or campaign. Campaigns cover a wide range of locations around the world, like the forests of Ardennes, the deserts of Northern Africa, the jungles of Far East and D-Day in Normandy. The game holds hundreds of WW II units from the all-familiar German tanks to obscure trucks. On top of normal troops you can order air support in the form of bombers, fighters, ground attack planes, recon and paratroopers.
Successfully completing missions gains you promotions and your troops improve their experience. Success does not come easy, but you are presented with a wide selection of commands for this. On top of the standard movement and attack commands you can order your troops to dig in, lay mines, mount disbanded artillery pieces and so forth. The troops’ movement can be altered by different formations and movement styles (crouching, aggressive, march columns etc).

Blitzkrieg: Rolling Thunder

The second Add-On to Blitzkrieg has a 18-mission campaign with the American tank legend general George S. Patton. The campaign took place in seven different countries, from North Africa to the Ardennes, including the landings on Sicily and the Normandy.
Beside the campaign there are eight more single-player scenarios, new units (infantry and also vehicles), new buildings and an improved AI. The occupation of train stations, ports, tank factories and airports ensures constant supplies, meaning that there are reinforcements now.
The whole game is build on the graphic engine of the original Blitzkrieg game, only including new graphics for the new theatres of war like Australia-Guinea, Siberia, Spain or the snowy forests of the Ardennes.

This is the third add-on to Blitzkrieg. It contains 2 campaigns in which the player commands German troops. In the first one, the 9th SS Panzer Division, on missions in Dunkirk, Kiev and the Ardennes. In the second one, the German paratroops, the Fallschirmjäger. One of the missions is the famous capture of Fort Eben-Emael.
Beside the campaign there are some stand-alone single-player scenarios.
Blitzkrieg or Rolling Thunder are required to be able to play the game.

As its predecessor, Blitzkrieg, Blitzkrieg 2 is a real-time strategy game set during World War 2 featuring three campaigns. Typical for the Blitzkrieg series is that no base building or resource gathering is required. The player starts a mission with some core units, with which he should accomplish the given goals. During the missions, additional backup troops can be called in.
The three campaigns are:
* USA’s war in the Pacific
* Germany fighting in Europe and North Africa
* Soviet Union defending the homeland
Compared to the first part, the game engine is upgraded, allowing for full 3D, and there are more units, over 250. The game also contains a unit database, providing information on all these units, of which there exists an online version on the official website.

Blitzkrieg 2 The Finest Hour

The key change is a great new start-game. The first few tech levels are now very polished, with fluid gameplay, while infantry spam is notiable only for its absense. No unit has a position of dominance, and you need everything to succeed. The towed artillery adds more units to the mix in the start game, and this added diversity greatly expands the tactics open to you.
To give a rough idea of how the early game now plays, here is a bit of information about each of the unit groups:
Basic rifle infantry (new models for the Russian soldiers btw) will now no longer use AT grenades. Instead each side has an anti-tank weapon which disables rather than destroys the enemy tank. However their main role is to kill infantry at range, and also to shoot them out of buildings.
SMG infantry are the new addition, and are more geared towards close-ranged combat. They mow down rifle infantry at close range, and also can use smoke grenades. They have HE grenades which will clear out a building faster than riflemen can do it, but only from a closer range.
Light tanks now have a more clearly defined role in the early game as a heavy machinegun platform. Infantry will have a hard time taking one out, as they are only really vulnerable to the dedicated AT infantry. They are exceptionally nasty units to large groups of intanry, and provided they have soldiers to take out any AT men, they can clear a street very fast.
Mobile Anti Air plays a big role in the early game because of its power vs infantry (the Russians now use the M17 which is basically a lend-lease M16). While it is no match for light tanks, it can massacre infatnry in the open. This helps somewhat to ease the game into the more tank-oreintated later phases. Then again, if you neglect infantry you will lose… It’s a simple as that.
Light Artillery is the offensive support weapon. It can lay down withering fire to massed formations, and also suppress enemies or conceal your own forces by laying down a smokescreen.
Light AT Guns are deadly ambush units, and can be used to make strong defensive positions. They will shut down a blind rush of light tanks with no difficulty, but against artillery they are exceptionally vulnerable.
You may notice the increase in power a lot of units have vs their targets. Rifle inf can clear buildings with their standard attack, and SMG infantry are even more effective at this at close range. Light tanks can take appart large groups of infantry, and mobile anti-air units even more so. This means that the gameplay is fluid. A garrison can be cleared without too much effort, and massed formations in the open have plenty of counters. After all, if someone is really determined to dig in, then you can always break out the light artillery and blow them to bits!
